SPARK Federal Credit Union traces its roots to August 30, 1957, when seven members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 76 founded what was then IBEW Local 76 Federal Credit Union. Their vision was simple: create a trusted financial cooperative dedicated to serving union members and their families. Those founding members—W.M. Gaffney, John W. Thornton, Douglas W. Lane, Ronald Wells, Richard J. Bergman, Paul J. Keonitzer, and Clyde H. Hupp—built the credit union on the belief that people are stronger when they work together and support one another. Over the years, the credit union has grown beyond its humble beginnings while remaining true to its founding principles. Today, as SPARK Federal Credit Union, we proudly serve union members, their families, and our communities by providing trusted financial solutions, personalized guidance, and meaningful support that help people achieve their goals and build a stronger financial future. More than 65 years later, the philosophy of “People Helping People” continues to guide everything we do, honoring our past while inspiring our future.
